Albano AFONSO Solo Exhibition “In a State of Suspension“
10:00am - 6:00pm, July 25 –September 10, 2017 / Admission Free
Light or a natural phenomenon caused by pairing relationships of light and shadow, while each of them has a completely opposite character, has been unraveled in the field of physics, and at the same time has influenced many artists from long ago, has been explored and has become a source of creation.
For the summer program of artist-in-residence at Aomori Contemporary Art Centre, we invite artist Albano Afonso who has been creating works using “light” that makes seeing itself possible as an important element. While reconsidering the traditional methods of expression found in portraits and landscape paintings in the context of art history, Afonso produces paintings, photographs and installation works. For this exhibition, he presents projection works of art mobile and light, which represent his works. The sculptural presence that the artist gives to “light” shows both physical clarity and elusive ambiguity, creating a space that causes, for a while, loss of a sense of time and physicality.
