FUNAI Misa Solo Exhibition “Paradise / Boundary, where we were once”

10:00am - 6:00pm, July 25 –September 10, 2017 / Admission Free

FUNAI Misa has been consistently exploring expressions in drawing and painting. In recent years, while working mainly in a mindset for drawing and painting, she has pioneered new expressions: for example, with mirrors placed on the wall, figure/ground or fiction/fact reversals occur in some works, and in a playground-toy work, the entire exhibition space is used as a canvas so that the viewer can get inside to actually experience the work.

Works mainly displayed in this exhibition are those which Funai has developed in ten years after she took part in an artist-in-residence program with the work Under Thread at ACAC in 2007. A paradise that she depicts appears as a boundary between reality and unreality, plane and solid, natural and artificial, and inside and outside, etc. Visitors will have fun as playing in a fantasy world through real experiences in the work. Both adults and children will experience the joy of being absorbed in the world of her work in their own ways.
